The purpose of this organization is to empower students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking; increase awareness of issues surrounding mental health, symptoms related to mental health disorders and to provide mental health resources for university community members.

Membership is available to university students, alumni, faculty and staff members.
Active Minds achieved PLATINUM standing, per the university's Chapter Standards program. Platinum standing demonstrates the highest level of chapter involvement and denotes excellence in chapter leadership and member engagement.
Campus leadership opportunities are a great way to meet other students, alumni, and faculty at the university while also developing skills in the areas of:
- Administrative and project management
- Organizational knowledge and strategy
- Critical thinking and reflection
- Communication skills
- Leadership and teamwork
