This course is a critical analysis of the origins, structures, and contemporary importance of traditional and modern insurgencies stemming from revolutionary movements of the 20th and 21st centuries. Applying the social science method, this inquiry examines and makes use of various theories and analytical frameworks, applying them to relevant case studies based upon the historical record. Students will garner a fundamental understanding of how insurgencies have evolved during the preceding century and use this knowledge to analyze contemporary insurgencies and make predictions regarding future developments of insurgencies.
