This course will introduce the student to the fundamentals of the Arabic language. The student will learn basic vocabulary, verb conjugations, and grammatical usage through online listening, speaking, reading and writing exercises. The student will also learn about the cultures of Arabic speaking nations.

Current Syllabi

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to:

CO-1. Read, write, and recognize the letters in the Arabic alphabet.

CO-2. Write and speak simple words and sentences in Arabic.

CO-3. Greet another student in Arabic.

CO-4. Recognize and respond to simple interrogatives about self and family members in Arabic.

CO-5. Recognize numbers 1-10.

The course grade is based on the following assessments:

Forums – 25 percent

Each week, students are required to complete a Writing, Reading, and Listening Exercise within the forums. Students are required to complete these forums by Sunday 11:55 pm ET. Forum posts are graded on timeliness, and demonstrated knowledge of the weekly Lesson material.

Midterm assignment - 25 percent

This assignment is an assessment of lesson material from Weeks 1-3. This assignment will evaluate student comprehension in the following areas: Forms of the Letters, Letter Connection, Reading, and Translation. The assignment can be located under the Assignment Tab in the classroom.

Progress assignment - 25 percent

This assignment is an assessment of lesson material from Weeks 1-6. This assignment will evaluate student comprehension in the following areas: Forms of the Letters, Letter Connection, Reading, and Translation. The assignment can be located under the Assignment Tab in the classroom.

Final assignment – 25 percent

This assignment is an assessment of lesson material from Weeks 1-8. This assignment will evaluate student comprehension in the following areas: Forms of the Letters, Letter Connection, Reading, and Translation. The assignment can be located under the Assignment Tab in the classroom.
