Master of Science

The Master of Science in Applied Business Analytics helps you master the high demand business intelligence skills necessary to stand out as a problem solver, decision maker, strategic thinker, and communicator in any industry. Using problem-solving exercises, you will learn to use data mining techniques and apply business and big data analytics to help you meet your organization’s business objectives. You’ll develop and apply critical thinking skills and create better management analytics tools to use in business process and decision-making. This program is also ideal for any rising business leader looking for a competitive advantage in their marketplace.

Program Objectives

In addition to the institutional and degree level learning objectives, graduates of this program are expected to achieve these learning outcomes:

  • Construct both simple regression and multiple linear regression analytical models.
  • Use text mining and data mining techniques in the processes of model building for data analysis.
  • Define and quantify business problems for the purposes of analytical investigation and decision-making.
  • Analyze the interpretation of results from statistical analysis.
  • Communicate statistical results and reports for the purpose of decision-making.

Admission Requirements

All graduate programs require you to have earned a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

If your bachelor's degree is NOT accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), or the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), your required first courses here will be:

  • BUSN601 - Global Management Perspective
  • BUSN602 - Managerial Analysis
  • BUSN603 - Quantitative Analysis

If you have a bachelor's degree in a business program that is accredited by ACBSP, AACSB, or IACBE, you are NOT required to take the courses listed above, and instead may take 3 graduate-level elective courses. 

Please be prepared to submit a legible copy of your valid government-issued photo ID (civilian students) or government issued JST or CCAF transcript (military students) upon request.

Transfer Credits 

Accelerate your degree completion by taking full advantage of our transfer credit options, including credit for your previous college courses, military service schools, American Council on Education (ACE) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, and prior learning experiences.

This program resides in the American Public University School of Business, where 18 of our 26 degree programs have earned specialized accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This distinction does not come easy! To earn ACBSP accreditation, programs need to demonstrate quality in the areas of teaching excellence, student learning outcomes, and a continuous improvement. On top of this, our accounting degree programs have also earned the prestigious ACBSP Specialized Accounting Accreditation.

APU School of Business courses are taught online by real-world practitioners who strive to bring expert knowledge and relevancy to our students. With input from industry advisory councils, the School of Business regularly examines and updates curriculum and introduces new programs such as our in-demand degrees in business analytics and our new Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam preparation certificate.

At APU, we understand your need for flexibility because most of our students are working adult learners attending school around work and other life commitments. This is why we offer 8-week or 16-week online courses that start monthly. Through an online virtual classroom, you’ll communicate with students and professors in forum communities as you work to complete your weekly written assignments on your own schedule from anywhere in the world.
