With APU’s Momentum™option, you’ll focus on learning new competencies at your pace. We’ll work with you to assess your current knowledge and develop your personalized learning plan and resources. Instead of attending traditional classes, you’ll master a specific competency and move directly to the next without waiting for a new term to begin, with subject matter experts and a faculty mentor guiding you along the way.
Because Momentum programs offer competency-based education and have a fixed-term price, the more competencies you complete each term, the more you can save on the total cost of your degree. Momentum programs are ideal if you’re highly motivated, have some expertise in your subject area, and can commit 16-20 hours per week to your studies.

Prior Learning Assessment
Our students come to us with a vast array of work experience and training, and we recognize that not all learning has resulted from traditional classroom attendance. Our Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) program provides students with the opportunity to earn credit for learning outside the confines of a traditional classroom.
The PLA portfolio program might be right for you if you have developed college- or graduate-level knowledge, skills, and abilities, and are able to demonstrate that these skills meet the learning objectives of an academic course.

Dual degree programs allow for completion of two master’s degrees within a compressed time frame, and range from 60-69 semester hours (20-23 courses) of study with one culminating capstone experience. We currently offer a dual master’s degree in Emergency and Disaster Management and Homeland Security, which are also taught as two separate master’s programs at the university. Taking these online graduate programs in tandem gives you the core courses of both programs along with a selection of electives culminating in an end-of-program assessment.

If you’ve earned academic credit at other accredited institutions, don’t leave these hard-earned credits behind. We are committed to awarding you as much transfer credit as possible. Take advantage of our free preliminary transfer credit review to find out if the college credits you previously earned might transfer here. The more credits you have to transfer, the sooner you can achieve your goal of degree completion.
