Online Master of Education: Guidance and Counseling
The Master of Education: Guidance and Counseling online degree empowers individuals seeking a foundational program that supports their passion for educating, advising, teaching, and developing children in various K–12 school settings. American Public University provides this degree program entirely online, allowing students to continue their professional endeavors while earning a quality master’s in education. The program attracts professionals serving a variety of educational functions including those in leadership and administrative management positions. Through academic research and intensive discussions, students expand their knowledge of theoretical human development and they learn relevant skills that can be applied in counseling or educational formats. Students also discover transformative strategies that promote youth academic success and enhance social development. Additionally, the degree plan aligns with the American School Counselor Association national model, which advocates comprehensive and data-driven school counseling programs.
The Master of Education: Guidance and Counseling online degree also adheres to the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards and is comprised of 12 online three credit hour core courses, followed by a six credit hour practicum (100 field hours) and a six credit hour internship (600 field hours) for a total of 48 credit hours. Courses in this program are a combination of 8 and 16 weeks in length.
