About This Program

Explore the UN’s role in conflict, war, mediation, diplomacy, peacekeeping, and international law with the United Nations undergraduate certificate program, offered by American Public University (APU).

For this online program, you will select six United Nations certificate courses from a variety of topics, including international relations, international organizations, international law and regimes, terrorism and U.S. national security, international conflict resolution, principles of peacekeeping, peacekeeping logistics, international civil order, and the history of peacekeeping.

The United Nations certificate is often of interest to those involved with peacekeeping operations and logistics or humanitarian assistance intervention and human security.

This course assesses the impact of terrorism on U.S. national security. With a focus on essential elements related to terrorism as well as on U.S. anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism policies and their challenges, the student will develop a comprehensive understanding of how the United States views terrorism and how its lasting threat affects national security.

Students will gain an understanding of the concepts, principles, and strategies that govern logistical support for UN and regional peace operations. Emphasis is placed on building an understanding of the role, responsibilities, and limitations facing those who manage logistics for peace operations. This course examines the strategy, operations, evolution, and functions of United Nations and regional peacekeeping operations (PKO) from the end of the Cold War to the present. Emphasis is on the significance of individual peacekeeping missions, including their background, functioning, military operations, and end result. While the United Nations peacekeeping operations are studied in detail, other forms of peacekeeping are presented as well.
