About This Program

Prepare to guide students in becoming innovative, creative thinkers ready for the 21st-century workplace by enrolling in the K-6 STEAM (STEM + the Arts) graduate certificate program at American Public University (APU).

APU’s online STEAM education program focuses on curriculum development and lesson plan creation for educators wishing to integrate the visual and performing arts with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This program, featuring strong technology integration, challenges you to develop interdisciplinary K-6 STEAM content for face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid formal and informal instructional settings. To prepare you for teaching STEAM, coursework includes exposure to humane education and space studies.

This nonlicensure program is designed for licensed K-6 teachers, as well as instructors of park, community, camp, and homeschool programs.

NOTE: This program has specific admission requirements. It does not award professional licensure and does not qualify you to apply for teaching licensure. This program may be helpful in preparing to earn certain professional certifications. 

What You Will Do

This course serves as an introduction to the APUS Space Studies Master’s program. It describes on the main concentrations in Space Studies: Astronomy, Aerospace Science, Space Policy, and Space Entrepreneurship. It also focuses on the technical writing proficiency expectation for graduate study and the importance of the peer review process in scientific literature. The course explores both current and future directions in NASA space exploration. It also introduces the new United States Space Force (USSF), and considers the implications of the USSF for the direction of our country’s space exploration policy.

Admission Requirements

All APU master's degree and graduate programs require a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

In addition, the following is required for admission into this program. All documentation must be provided prior to course registration:

  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, or a master’s transcript showing conferral of a degree
  • Graduate writing sample
  • Statement of Understanding (SOU)
