Momentum 2020 Scholarship

We help students make a difference in the world. Our APU Momentum 2020 Scholarship gives you 50% off, up to two undergraduate courses.

  • 50% tuition grant = $427.50 per 3-credit course (most courses are 3 credits, plus $65 tech fee per course)
  • Available to all undergraduate students currently enrolled at a four-year, primarily on-campus school
  • Applies to course starts in May, June, July, and August 2020
  • Must provide a valid student ID from your home school to complete enrollment
  • Some courses have lab fees, and the lab fees are not covered by the scholarship
  • No form of government student financial aid is available through our university for students who participate in the APU Momentum 2020 Scholarship; students should check with their home institution as to whether any government aid may be available through the home institution.

How to Apply & Get the Scholarship

  1. Choose Your Course
    Review your existing academic plan, identify courses you still need for your degree, and use the course schedule tool to choose the course or courses you wish to take. Under Session, select the month you want to begin your course: May, June, July, or August. Choose a category (course subject) and then your level (undergraduate).
  2. Gather Course Information Details
    Within our course schedule tool, use the + sign to expand the information on each course. Then select the "Additional Course Details" button. Make sure you document the following information for your home institution if you want to pursue transfer of the APUS course credit to your home school, as described in the next step.

    • Course materials or books
    • Previous syllabi
    • Session date 
  3. Talk to Your Home School

    Your home institution will need a copy of the information you gathered in step 2, and possibly additional information, to determine if you will be able to transfer APUS credit to your home institution to be applied toward your degree program at that institution. If your institution requires additional information from APUS, please contact info@apus.edu.

    Contact the appropriate advisor at your home institution once you have all the course information ready in order to determine whether the institution will accept APUS credit for transfer and whether any approvals from your home institution are required for you to take APUS courses and obtain transfer credit. APUS cannot guarantee that your home school or any other school will accept APUS credit for transfer and it is your responsibility to obtain any necessary approvals from your home institution.

  4. Apply
    Now you're ready to enroll and complete our application There is no cost to apply and no test scores are needed. On the application, choose “Momentum Scholarship” in the drop-down menu under “Affiliations and Memberships.” Because you wish to take individual courses only, you need to specify that when you select your academic program on the APUS application. You will choose "Undergraduate Non-Degree Seeking." The system will then show you as "Undergraduate Courses for Transfer" in our School of Arts & Humanities. Don't worry if that school designation is not what you expected based on the courses you want to take. That is simply the school designation that we use when you register for individual courses.
  5. Payment
    We accept MasterCard, Visa, and Discover, as well as e-checks. Contact info@apus.edu with questions or if you need assistance. Federal student aid through APUS is not available. In limited circumstances, military tuition assistance may be available. Please contact your education service officer or counselor. If you wish to use veteran benefits, please contact your home institution for guidance.

Why is this scholarship being offered?
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, many students at predominantly on-campus institutions have experienced a disruption in their traditional mode of college attendance. With transitions to online learning, students are continuing their learning while social-distancing or working remotely. With a heritage of nearly 30 years as an online leader in higher education, we are offering this scholarship because we recognize that traditional summer sessions may be disrupted and it’s the right thing to do to help people stay on the pathway to degree completion.
How does the APUS Momentum 2020 Scholarship work?
With this scholarship, visiting undergraduate students may take up to two courses using a 50% tuition grant that is applied to our standard tuition rate for each course. The scholarship will be provided for courses that start in May, June, July, and August 2020, as long as monies designated for the program continue to be available.
Who does it assist?
The APU Momentum 2020 Scholarship was established for students who are currently enrolled in a degree program at a predominantly on-campus, four-year institution who wish to continue their education until the start of their institution’s next academic year in the fall.
Is this school accredited?
American Public University is part of American Public University System (APUS), which is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
Do I have to demonstrate that I’m a current student at a predominantly on-campus, four-year institution?
Yes. We ask that you submit your current college student ID for verification to complete your enrollment.
What is the time period for when I can use the scholarship?
The scholarship can be applied to register for courses that start in May, June, July, and August 2020. Most courses are 8-weeks, with some 16-week courses available. Courses start at the beginning of every month.
Do I have to apply separately for the scholarship?
No. We’ve streamlined the process. Simply apply to APUS. In the application, you’ll select “Momentum Scholarship” from the drop-down menu for “Affiliations and Memberships.” We ask that you submit your current college student ID for verification to complete your enrollment.
Is there anything I need to do on the application in order to get this scholarship?
Under “Affiliations and Memberships,” choose “Momentum Scholarship.” Under Academic Program, choose “Undergraduate Non-Degree Seeking.” This will categorize you as an “Undergraduate Courses for Transfer” student in our School of Arts & Humanities, the school that is home to our individual course inventory. This is designated as “Undergraduate Courses for Transfer,” because you intend to transfer the credit you earn for APUS courses to your home institution, subject to your home institution’s transfer credit policy.
Are there any courses that are excluded?
The scholarship can be used for any undergraduate course. The existing textbook grant covers your undergraduate textbook costs. The scholarship does not cover lab fees, the technology fee, or certain course materials that may be required for a course. Some programs like natural sciences and engineering (ENGR and ELEN) have lab fees.
Can I use Federal Student Aid (FSA)?
FSA is not available through APUS for undergraduate courses for transfer.
Can the scholarship be used for master’s-level or doctoral education?
No. The scholarship is offered only for undergraduate courses.
Does the university have the capacity and resources that align with my educational goals?
Because our university offers more than 1,200 undergraduate courses, combined with our scalable platform and affordable rates, we felt one way we could contribute to the higher education community impacted by the coronavirus was to offer options for college students enrolled in predominantly on-campus institutions to be able to continue their education online during these uncertain times.
Will I have to pay for books or any other fees?
Textbooks are provided at no cost through our university book grant. There is a technology fee of $65 per course, which is not covered by the scholarship, and certain courses may have additional course material costs or lab fees, which are also not covered by the scholarship. 
To be eligible for the Momentum 2020 Scholarship, do I have to continue taking more courses at APUS or identify as a full-time student at APUS?
The Momentum 2020 Scholarship is designed for students who are enrolled in a degree program at a predominantly on-campus, four-year institution. As such, you will take individual courses at APUS, but will not be enrolled in a degree program at APUS. As a recipient of the scholarship, you will be under no obligation to enroll in a degree program at APUS.
Are your courses taught by faculty or is this self-directed learning?
Your learning will be led by our expert faculty in a collaborative online classroom.
If I am attending a community college and will be transferring to a university, can I participate?
Yes. You should consult the university where you intend to enroll to learn their transfer policies and procedures. See “Will my coursework transfer?” and “How do I transfer credit to my current school?” for further guidance and apply the same steps in consulting with your future institution.
Can I transfer credits to my community college?
If you are currently attending community college, confirm with your current institution that the APUS credits will be accepted by the community college. See “How do I transfer credits to my current school?” below for next steps.
Will credits be eligible for reverse transfer to complete an associate degree at my community college?
That will depend on whether your community college participates in National Student Clearinghouse’s Reverse Transfer program. APUS participates in the program. However, you must confirm with your school that it participates in the program, that the course credits are transferrable, and what steps you need to take to authorize APUS to transfer credits to the institution so an associate degree can be awarded.
Will my coursework transfer?
Your home institution will need information about your APUS courses to determine if you will be able to transfer APUS credit to your home institution to be applied toward your degree program at that institution. Contact the appropriate advisor at your home institution, once you have your course information ready, in order to determine whether the institution will accept APUS credit for transfer and whether any approvals from your home institution are required for you to take APUS courses and obtain transfer credit. APUS cannot guarantee that your home institution or any other institution will accept APUS credit for transfer and it is your responsibility to obtain any necessary approvals from your home institution.
How do I transfer credits to my current school?

After you complete your course(s), you will need to order your transcript through the link on your campus website and send it to your home institution.
How long will the Momentum 2020 Scholarship be offered?
The scholarship will be available for up to 20,000+ undergraduate students for May, June, July, and August 2020 course starts.
What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept MasterCard, Visa, and Discover, as well as e-checks. Contact info@apus.edu with questions or if you need assistance. Federal student aid through APUS is not available. Can I use any other offer in combination with this, like an employer-sponsored grant?
No other APUS-provided offers may be applied.
