An overview of the general area of logistics, its nature, scope, and process. It is a critical examination of logistics management functions and the interrelationships among strategic support and operational logistics.

Current Syllabi

After successfully completing this course, students will fulfill the following Learning Objectives (LO):

  1. Identify logistics definition / terms and logistics system requirements
  2. Explain the principles and concepts of Reliability, Maintainability and Availability Measures.
  3. Identify Measures of Logistics and understand how effectiveness is affected in the process.
  4. Understand the System Engineering Process and the basic steps involved in the system life cycle.
  5. Understand the concept of Supportability Analysis and the essential role it plays in the system design and development process.
  6. Identify the major phases involved in the process of system design and describe some of the challenges of developing a system that is completely supportable.
  7. Understand the production / construction phase of the system life cycle process as it relates to forward / reverse flow.
  8. Identify logistics activities and understand how the phases of the life cycle system interrelates as outlined in (Figure 8-­‐1).
  9. Understand the challenges of fulfilling logistics objectives in today’s environment.
