This course prepares students with an interest in pursuing a career in the fast growing industry of sports facility or event management. During the course, students will acquire professional skills that can be applied in a wide variety of career positions. A range of topics includes facility financing, alcohol management, crowd management, and box office management. Upon completion students will have basic fundamentals to comprehend the field of facility and event management.
After successfully completing this course, students will fulfill the following Learning Objectives (L.O.):
Demonstrate how sustainability procedures reduce energy expenditures in facility management and apply best practices for “greening” sport facilities and understand sport event operations, the steps in planning and producing an event and event logistics.
Evaluating facility financing and construction plans, bidding, project budgets and the roles and relationships of managers in this process and understanding public subsidies from the past to present and the various taxes and application of those taxes.
Defining and detailing the importance of meeting ADA requirements in facility development and management.
Examining contracts and new online technological portals to access current issues in Sports Facility Management and identifying the different types of facility contracts.
Develop the knowledge and skills for recognizing risks and proper avoidance and describe the importance of crowd management and how it is essential to any event along with medical emergency and evaluation plans.
Identify the concept of concession management and how it plays a role in a facility’s success and assess the significance of certain types of event tickets and how they can drive concession management.
