This course demonstrates the 21st century importance of strategic reverse logistics planning in contributing to corporate profits, customer service enhancements leading to higher sales and a marketing weapon to gain sustainable competitive advantage. The importance of moving information becomes equal to the movement of goods but is different when working in forward logistics compared to reverse logistics operations. Federal and state regulations regarding waste management and the handling of recycled materials will be examined. Managerial perspectives are offered on aligning corporate planning, technology, financial controls and reverse logistics performance measurement. Students will also gain an overview on the interaction among stakeholders in the public and private sectors in aligning public policy with global uncertainties when implementing reverse logistics operations.

LO 2 – Explain the applicability of hazardous waste to reverse logistics operations (Industrial Waste)
LO-3 - Explain product life-cycle reverse logistics support policy for reclaiming value from recycled and waste materials.
LO 4 – Describe sustainable logistics
LO 5 - Explain the policy issues related to the handling and movement of hazardous materials for returns, recycling and waste management of products.
LO 6 - Explain the packaging and protection of hazardous materials as a result of returns, recycling and waste management of products to safeguard the environment.
LO 7 - Examine the process of identifying reverse logistics-related social infrastructure bottlenecks.
LO 8 - Describe and develop a reverse logistics plan and policy for retail industry.
LO 9 - Conduct research on reverse logistics policy development through reading trade and business journals, professional conference materials, and online resources for federal, state and local government policies and procedures.
LO 10 - Describe the ethical behavior in Reverse Logistics Planning.
LO 11 - Identify emerging trends of problems and potential solutions for reverse logistics management operations that impact the environment.
LO 12 - Describe the best practices in reverse logistics applications, planning, policies, and regulations in returns and their impact on the organizations return on investment and stakeholder interaction.
LO 13 - Explain procedures and technology to sustainable operations within a manufacturing enterprise and a retail business.
LO 14 – Examine the process to gain a competitive Advantage in RL, and eeconomic and business factors, environmental factors, and social factors
