INTL304 - Intelligence Collection

Course Code: INTL304 Course ID: 3179 Credit Hours: 3 Level: Undergraduate

A multidisciplinary survey of Imagery Intelligence (IMINT), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Human Intelligence (HUMINT), and Measurement and Signature Intelligence (MASINT) is conducted. The background, capabilities, and limitations of each intelligence collection method are covered. The course focuses on planning activities which provide an integrated approach to intelligence collection.

Current Syllabi

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to

CO-1 Analyze the function, process, structure, and value of literal intelligence collection methods (HUMINT, COMINT, OSINT, and cyber collection).

CO-2 Differentiate the strengths and limitations in nonliteral technical collection methods (electromagnetic and non-electromagnetic collection)

CO-3 Demonstrate understanding of collection management and strategy.

CO-4 Apply specific mechanisms and procedures to intelligence collection planning.

CO-5 Generalize the effects of collection on the quality of intelligence analysis and the final users of intelligence products.

Each assignment will be evaluated by the instructor using a rubric scoring guide and comments inserted into the Word document. Forum grades will be determined using a rubric scoring guide. Additionally, comments may be given informally within the forum or in more detail within the forum grader tool.

Forum discussions – One initial post by Thursday; at least two follow-up posts to classmates by Sunday. Specific topics are found in Forums tab of the classroom.

Progress assignments – There are three short-answer assignments on course concepts during the course. These are found in the Assignments area of the course.

Midterm assignment – Project on intelligence collection planning. Specific instructions found in Assignments tab of the classroom.
