This course is a study of the environmental organization at the federal level, to include duties and responsibilities of federal environmentally-focused agencies, non-environmental agencies and organizations that have environmental impact or related responsibilities, and other federal administrative issues focused on environmental bureaucracy, contracting, and/or outsourcing to private organizations.

LO-1. Explain the environmental legacy of U.S. Presidents.

LO-2. Detail the purpose and jurisdiction of the Environmental Protection Agency, including current programs.

LO-3. Detail the mandates and authorities of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service within the Department of the Interior.

LO-4. Detail the mandates and authorities of U.S. Geological Service and National Park Service as agents of the Department of Interior.

LO-5. Detail the jurisdictions and environmental programs of the Department of Commerce, with focus on the NOAA-Fisheries and NOAA-Ocean Service as agents of this department.

LO-6. Detail the jurisdiction and programs of the Department of Agriculture, with focus on Natural Resources Conservation Service and U.S. Forest Service.

LO-7. Detail the environmental programs of the Department of Defense, with focus on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

LO-8. Summarize the contributions of federal environmental organizations to reducing environmental pollution and its impact.
