Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

  1. Apply and get accepted to our university
  2. If you are a first time user of or a new application for VA Benefits, complete form 22-1990 via the Veterans On-Line Application (VONAPP)
  3. The VA will then process your application and send you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).  The COE will detail the percentage of benefits (ranging from 40% to 100) you are eligible to receive through the VA
  • If you have a COE, please forward a copy to us.
  • If you have used your GI Bill benefits before and are re-applying to or transferring to our university, complete form 22-1995 and send it along with your COE.
  • It may take a while for the VA to issue the COE to you.  In the interim, you may send us a copy of your 22-1990 Application, along with your Member 4 DD-214(s), if separated from the military.
  • Please note:  Any missing information or documentation may cause a delay in the processing of your enrollment
  1. Register for classes using VA Chapter 33 as your payment type.
  • A hold will be posted to your registration until we verify the percentage you noted at registration matches the percentage of benefits you are eligible to receive
  • Once the match is verified, you will be granted course access. If a discrepancy exists, you will be contacted and your ability to enter your classes will be delayed until the issue is resolved
  • Please note: If your benefit rate is less than 100%, then you will have to pay the amount not covered by the VA at the time of registration
  1. Send your 22-1990 or 22-1995 to:

Fax: 304-724-3782 or Toll-Free: 877-480-4236
Email: VAQuestions@apus.edu
APUS
Attn: VA
111 W. Congress Street
Charles Town, WV 25414

  1. We will then submit the enrollment to the VA after the drop period for when the course/courses begin.
  • When we submit enrollment to the VA, it will prompt them to send the BAH and book stipend to you, if you qualify.

  • Please note:  Any missing information or documentation may cause a delay in the processing of your enrollment
  1. Register for classes
  • The university requires that all students pay up front for the tuition prior to having access to their classrooms.  You may contact the Student Accounts Office (stuaccounts@apus.edu or 877-468-6268 ext. 3660) to discuss your payment options as we do offer a payment plan, and we have federal student aid if you wish to look into using a federal school loan while you await the payment from the VA. If you are interested in a federal student loan, please log into the electronic campus and complete the "Federal Student Aid Intent Form" and you will be sent information on how to apply.
  • Under the Montgomery GI Bill, the VA pays directly to the student and not to the university, which is why APUS requires VA students to pay up front.
