- ACG: Academic Competitiveness Grant
- ADP: Automatic Debit Plan. Payment plan option during Registration. Two choices of 2 or 4 equal payments – first due upon registration
- AMU: American Military University
- APU: American Public University
- APUS: American Public University System
- COA: Cost of Attendance

- Cost of Attendance: An estimate of the total costs for a student to attend any university
- DOD: Department of Defense
- Drop: Leaving a course by the end of the first week of the session. (Sunday at midnight)
- EFC: Expected Family Contribution
- Enrollment status: Based on the number of credits, a student is determined to be either full time, 3/4 time, half time, or less than half time
- ESO: Education Service Officer
- FAFSA: Free Application for Federal Student Aid
- FFELP: Federal Family Education Loan Program
- FDSLP: Federal Direct Student Loan Program
- FSA: Federal Student Aid
- GPA: Grade Point Average
- Graduate enrollment status: Full time = 6 or more credits per semester; half time = 3 credits per semester
- MBS: Bookstore contracted by APUS to supply all undergrad books at no cost to students
- Military Tuition Assistance (TA): Military program that allows military personnel to take a limited number of courses each year at the cost of the military branch
- MPN: Master Promissory Note
- PIN: Personal Identification Number
- SAR: Student Aid Report
- SMART Grant: National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent
- TA: Tuition Assistance
- TCE: Transfer Credit Evaluation
- Undergraduate Enrollment Status: Full time = 12 or more credits; 3/4 = 9 to 11 credits; half time = 6 to 8 credits; less than half time = 5 or less credits
- VA Program: Veteran’s Administration Program. A program that former military may use to pay for courses if the student had participated in the VA program during active duty through pay deductions
- VFAO: Virtual Financial Aid Office
