Travis Combest | 2017 Award Recipient
Travis is this year’s recipient of the Alumni Education Award. Travis is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. He graduated with honors with a 3.9 GPA and was on the Dean’s List. While completing his Masters of Public Health Practicum with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics, he published a Quick Stats publication in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report that focused on the United States’ physical activity guidelines. Nationally, he also presented his master’s thesis on nutrition and exercise messages as a poster presentation, and he is in the process of submitting the presentation for publication in a national journal.
Travis is an Exercise Physiologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He works to increase the health and wellness for active duty, retired, and dependents of service members. He has excelled in civilian service with awards in the following: Superior Civilian Award, Certificate in Safety Award, Certificate of Achievement, and Senior Civilian of the Quarter.
Travis is also a lecturer for the U.S. Military Dietetic Internship, where he helps young officers with their master’s thesis research rotation at Walter Reed. He has presented several articles at national conferences and has recently published an article in Military Medicine comparing body composition methods in service members. Travis aims to continue to increase the health and wellness of his community and nation through continued education and innovation through clinical practice and research.
