Opportunity is Knocking
Laura Dolan
With commencement around the corner, many of you are thinking about the next steps. Luckily, the old adage holds true; while the door of getting your degree is closing, windows of opportunity are opening! Will you take advantage while you can?
If your next step is beginning or moving forward on your career path, you’ll love the incredible week-long series of events during the inaugural Career Week 2013. The week leading up to commencement this year is chock-full of career fairs, webinars, panel discussions, and career coaching that culminates in an in-person career fair in National Harbor, Md., to help you get the most of commencement.
If your next step keeps you in the world of academics, the university is partnering up to provide you with the means to tackle your goals. One partnership is with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), aligning our Sports & Health Sciences program with NASM’s Certified Personal Trainer certification to better prepare students for the exam. On the other hand, certificate holders will now be eligible to use that training to receive course credit!
The other is an educational alliance with Northcentral University (NCU) to give you a brand new opportunity for a doctoral scholarship and the ability to put your APU credits towards your NCU doctorate.
In this edition, we’re celebrating those who have answered opportunity’s knock: our four Alumni Award winners, the Volunteer Award winner, and an incredible 16 finalists for the prestigious Presidential Management Fellowship! We’re also crossing our fingers for APUS, who is a finalist for Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Award!
I hope you’re able to heed the call and I’ll be able to see you at commencement; it’s just a few short weeks away! Until then, I wish you all the very best!
