APUS welcomes international applicants and currently has approximately 100 students from more than 20 foreign countries.
In addition to the admission requirements for undergraduate or graduate study, students whose native or primary language is not English must also provide verification of English proficiency. For more information about English proficiency requirements click here.
Non-U.S. Transcripts
Students must have their non-U.S. transcripts from their post secondary education evaluated to determine their U.S. equivalency. Various international educational firms can interpret the educational backgrounds of people who have studied outside the United States and are in need of statements of U.S. equivalencies (see the list below under “Accepted Credential Evaluation Service Organizations”). These evaluators issue two main types of reports:
Undergraduate Students with no previous college-level academic credits:
Applicants must self-certify on their admissions application that they have received the equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma or have the recognized equivalent such as a GED certificate or have completed secondary school through home schooling as defined by state law. (Our institution maintains the right to require the student to provide supporting documentation if needed).
Undergraduate Students with previous college-level academic credits:
Undergraduate transfer students who have previous college-level credits are required to submit a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) Application as part of their admission process. They must request the educational agency interpreting their non-U.S. college-level transcript to send a course-by-course evaluation report directly to the university.
Exception: Transfer students who have applied for a transfer credit evaluation and are requesting transfer credit for coursework taken at a Canadian Institution are NOT REQUIRED to get an International course-by-course evaluation of the Canadian transcript if it meets the following criteria (the official transcript will still be required):
Graduate Students with no prior graduate-level academic credits:
Those whose highest degree is equivalent to a bachelors with no prior graduate-level work must request the educational agency interpreting their non-U.S. college-level transcript to send an official degree-only verification report directly to our university.
Exceptions:
Graduate Students with prior graduate-level academic credits:
Those with prior graduate-level work at a non-U.S. institution who wish to apply for a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) must request that an official course-by-course evaluation be sent directly to our university.
Accepted Credential Evaluation Service Organizations:
APUS will accept any International Transcript Evaluation Service that is a current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, Office of International Education Services (AACRAO-OIES), and international agencies that belong to Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
Because membership may change throughout the year, applicants with a non-U.S. transcript(s) requiring evaluation should visit the organization web sites to see the most current information. The student is responsible for contacting the agency directly for procedure and fee information.
The evaluating agency should mail the official report to this address:
American Public University System
Attn: Student Records
10110 Battleview Parkway, Suite 114
Manassas, VA 20109
