Biography - Michael D Miner


Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Michael D. Miner is a native of Jackson, Tennessee and currently resides in Hampton, Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Science degree (Mathematics and Economics) from the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. He holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from Boston University (1984) and a Masters of Arts in Applied Mathematics from University of Maryland (1991). He is current pursuing a Ph.D. in Applied Management and Decision Sciences at Walden University where he was the 2003 recipient of the David Palmer Fellowship.
During his military career, he graduated from, the Military Police Advance and Basic Courses; Installation Security Manager’s Course; Advanced Criminal Investigations Course; U.S. Army Combined Arms Service and Staff School; U.S. Army Command and General Staff College; and the Armed Forces Staff College. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army Airborne School and the U.S. Army Ranger School.
Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Miner's assignment history began as the Platoon Leader, 127th Military Police Company, Hanau, Germany. This was followed by various assignments increasing in responsibilities in Fulda, Germany; Washington DC; and Fort Belvior, Virginia. He spent two years studying applied mathematics at the University of Maryland; he then returned to West Point and served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. After this assignment, he was reassigned to the Washington, DC where he served as Commander, Headquarters Company, U.S. Army. He was then reassignment to Ft. Huachuca, Arizona and served as the Chief of the Advanced Technology Training Division for the U. S. Army Military Intelligence Center. In his final assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Miner was assigned to the Resource Directorate of U.S. Special Operations Command as a Senior Program Analyst.
After his retirement, he served as Senior Consultant/Lead Analyst for Human Resources Performance Consultants of Tampa, FL. He then served as a Senior Operations Research Systems Analyst for Coleman Research Corporation (L3 Comm) where he is involved in research projects for the United States Joint Forces Command, Joint Experimentation Directorate, Small Laboratory Experiments Division. He conducted research and provide analysis for future concepts, proposed organization structures, and emerging technologies related to military transformation. Mr. Miner was the Manager of Studies and Analysis for Whitney, Bradley, and Brown, INC. Hampton, Virginia office. He conducted decision analysis and decision support of a variety of analytical studies and conceptual initiatives. Mr. Miner is currently an independent statistical research consultant for a variety of government and private organizations.
Over the last sixteen years, Mr. Miner has provided classroom and online instructions to undergraduates in college mathematics, statistics, critical thinking, project management, and research and evaluation techniques, and graduate instructions to students in statistics, research techniques, managerial decision making, and operations management. He is a faculty mentor for undergraduate business research and statistics courses and serves on curriculum development and program enhancement teams.
