Brett F Woods

Brett F. Woods, Ph.D., is a professor in the Department of History and Military Studies, where he teaches historiography and historical research methods. A senior executive fellow of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and an elected fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society, London, Dr. Woods has written widely on political, military, and cultural history, with his work appearing in such publications as the "California Literary Review," the "Asian Studies Review," the "Canadian Journal of History," and the "Richmond Review" (London). He maintains an active research agenda – primary interests include British imperial studies and the Anglo-American colonial experience – and his most recent books include “Thomas Jefferson: Thoughts on War and Revolution” (2009), “Neutral Ground: A Political History of Espionage Fiction” (2007), and "Letters from France: The Private Diplomatic Correspondence of Benjamin Franklin, 1776-1785" (2006), all released by Algora Publishing, New York. Dr. Woods is also a member of the American Historical Association; the North American Conference on British Studies; and the National Book Critics Circle, New York. A Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces, he was awarded his doctorate in literature from the University of Essex, England, where his principal research surveyed the historical influences of war, espionage, and international affairs on the evolution of late nineteenth and early twentieth century British political fiction.
