Biography - Jingfang Wang

Dr. Jeff Wang
PhD in Physics Based Modeling and Visual Computing, George Mason University Institute of Computational Science

EDUCATION
Jeff Wang received his BS in Meteorology from Zhejiang University in 1991. He received a MS in Atmospheric Physics from the Chinese Academy of Science in 1994; and his PhD in Physics-Based Modeling and Visual Computing from George Mason University in 1999.

His dissertation title was:” Modeling and Simulation of Dust Behaviors behind a Moving Vehicle”, based on research and innovation of a new technology model on physically-based graphical modeling and fast rendering of realistic dust and smoke behaviors behind a moving vehicle. In his research he developed an interactively controlled driving simulation system with complicated terrain setups and created a real-time rendering engine using OpenGL and X11 libraries.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Subsequently, he spent eight years as senior technical staff member at AT&T. Dr. Jeff Wang's early career focused on enterprise software design, architecture, and development. He was awarded the Senior Member in Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1998.

Dr. Jeff Wang has been an adjunct professor in the Information Technology Department at American Public University System (APUS) since 2005. In addition to his specialization in Computer Graphics, his academic interests also include Software Engineering, and Applied Science and Computations.

PUBLICATIONS
Dr. Jeff Wang co-published several articles on Visualization of Geographically Referenced Statistical Summaries on the World Wide Web, several articles on Animation of Dust Behaviors in a Networked Virtual Environment; and a dozen papers on Atmospheric Physics.

AWARDS
Dr. Wang received the ACM senior member award in 2009, the AT&T Achievers Club award in 2005 and the AT&T Student Research competition award in 1998.

Dr. Wang received a doctoral fellowship from George Mason University for the 1997-1998 academic year and internships with Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and NASA California Institute of Technology for the summer of 1996.
