Biography - Lawrence R. Harrison

I was born in northeast Pa. (Kingston) in 1954.

Surviving the Hurricane Agnes-related flood during my high school graduation month in 1972, I entered Wilkes College for two semesters of partying.

Not being invited back for a third semester, I enlisted in the Air Force. The only guaranteed job that didn't sound bad was one that had its description blocked because it was classifed...so that's the one I took...communications analyst.

After basic training and tech school, I embarked on an Air Force career in intelligence. My assignments took me to Karamursel, Turkey; Omaha, Ne; Crete, Greece; Ft. Meade, Md; and South Korea. Also included were short, temporary assignments to Italy, Spain, Germany, Japan and Panama.

I managed to squeeze a four-year BS in Management into nine years with the University of Maryland, mostly overseas. During my last five years on active duty I completed an MS in Human Resource Management at the Johns Hopkins University.

I spent nine years after retirement with the management consulting firm of Booz Allen Hamilton. In 2002 I moved to Florida.

I started my teaching career by doing technical training at the National Cryptologic School during my last five years on active duty. I taught intelligence analysis and reporting as well as train-the-trainer courses.

I continued with a training emphasis during my Booz Allen career. My tasks ran from building training to supporting end users of custom software applications to full-blown business process reengineering.

I began facilitating graduate and undergraduate business and management courses part-time with University of Phoenix in Maryland in 2000. The next year I started with UoP online. I've been facilitating courses ever since. I later migrated to full-time with the American Military University.

Aside from dodging hurricanes, my fun activities include shooting clay targets with my shotguns and enjoying Florida life with a lovely young lady who I met through eHarmony. We are volunteer puppy raisers with Southeastern Guide Dogs in support of their Paws for Patriots program. We adopted our first puppy after a potential hip problem eliminated him from further guide dog training. Trapper is now in training with us to be a mobility service dog.
