
Currently working as a Regional Security Manager for General Motors International operations, based in Shanghai. Professor James Antal brings over 11 years combined professional experience in security consulting, corporate security management, private security services management, as well as 20 years of military service as a US Marine Corps Infantry and Intelligence officer.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Webster University with a Master of Arts in Security Management in 1997. Professor Antal’s undergraduate degree in History is from The Citadel. He holds a CPP (Certified Protection
Professional) designation and is a member of ASIS International. He has been a national speaker for ASIS as well as presented at various US Port Security conferences. Recently he was interviews as part of a televised PBS program,”One upon a Coup,” which aired in August 2009.
Highlights of Professor Antal’s career are as follows: In the USMC, he served as a rifle company commander, operations officer, and executive officer in infantry battalions; held the position of UN Military Observer in the Middle East and Africa working in multiple conflict zones; and working for the US Marine Corps History Museum where he published "On Mamba Station," a monograph depicting the Marine’s evacuations of US embassies in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Central African Republic.
In his post military career he has worked as the Security Director for the Port of Tacoma, where he was responsible for terminal and cargo security. While at the Port, Professor Antal wrote the first USCG approved International Port and Ship Security Code (ISPS/IMO/MTSA) compliant security plan as well as developed and managed a full scale security exercise involving over 300 first responders.
More recently, he has worked in the Oil and Gas sector for multiple fortune 500 companies including Shell Oil, San Francisco, CA, Marathon Oil in Equatorial Guinea, West Africa, and BHP Billiton,in Houston,Texas. In these positions, Professor Antal has conducted security audits, vulnerability assessments, and developed security procedures and plans for refineries, LNG, LPG plants and offshore platforms overseas. Furthermore, he has developed corporate evacuation plans, asset protection programs, and kidnap response plans.
In his current position, his duties span both Asia and Africa regions, focusing on manufacturing security and loss prevention, protecting intellectual property, and supply chain security.
He is happily married to Jena Beth and has five children. Some of his favorite leisure time activities are hiking and reading military history. Professor Antal is fluent in French and speaks basic Arabic and Spanish. Previously, he taught for American Military University, Criminal Justice Department from 2001-2004.
