So what skills/experience do I have that allows me to share my knowledge with all of you? In my signature in Email, on my business card you will see “PMP” after my name. That means that I have successfully met the requirements of an ISO 9000 standards organization, “Project Management Institute” in managing projects.
What are those standards? Over 4,500 hours of documented projects, 35 hours of college level or higher classroom training, passing a 4 hour, 200 question Project Management skills test. This test is not easy! You have to get 68% or higher to pass. Some of you will be thinking, “That should not be that hard”… IT IS and many who take the test fail the first time. By the way, that standard is not the standard for grading in this class.
Finally, every three years, a PMP (Project Manager Professional) must earn PDU’s (Professional Development Units) to keep up with new ideas and keep the knowledge fresh about Project Management.
My background is in Information Technology and I have managed many small and large IT projects. I have held Director and Managerial positions in the Chicagoland area and have moved computer rooms both local and remote, upgraded a dot-com’s website with fresh oracle code and pictures, moved cubicles (and the contents), and many other projects involving IT stuff.
Academic
Enough about my PM skills! What about my teaching skills? For the last 10 years, I have been teaching at local University. At the graduate level, I teach Information Technology classes including Security, Strategic Management, Programming, Database concepts, and Systems Analysis. At the undergraduate level, I teach PM at all the levels, General Management, and Applications classes.
I also currently teach at a corporate training center technology, Project Management Prep, MS Project, Project Server classes. I am involved a few projects such as implementing a SharePoint Server, a new Project Management Prep and a Green PC program. I love to teach and share my knowledge and I want to hear your experiences… what works and what does not! That is important because one needs to learn from mistakes and move forward.
