Biography - Brendan Fitzpatrick


Professor Fitzpatrick is a retired Lieutenant from the New York City Police Department (NYPD). His assignments over the span of his career included Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Narcotics, Organized Crime, Warrants and Transit Operations throughout the Boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. He responded to both the 2/26/1993 and 9/11/2001 World Trade Center terrorist attacks. He retired from the NYPD in 2009.

Professor Fitzpatrick is also a retired Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Coast Guard. His assignments included the Cutter Acushnet, Station Sandy Hook and the Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) Mid-Atlantic Region. After 9/11/01, the US Coast Guard became part of the Department of Homeland Security and Chief Fitzpatrick was recruited as a CGIS Special Agent. He was assigned to the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) to assist with Federal investigations of terrorist related threats to the maritime domain. He was the first Coast Guard representative permanently assigned to investigate terrorism cases at the New York JTTF and was involved with several high profile cases and events. He was also selected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to assist with implementing the Maritime Liaison Agent (MLA) Program. The MLA Program is a National program, directed by FBI Headquarters, which bridged a gap in coordination issues with multiple agency response to maritime threats. The MLA program is still utilized throughout the country in FBI Field Offices. He spent many years after 9/11/01 on active military duty and retired in 2008.

Professor Fitzpatrick earned his M.S. in Homeland Security with a Concentration in Terrorism Studies from American Military University; a B.S. in Human Services/ Administration of Justice from Thomas Edison State College and an A.S. in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University (NY). He has had extensive training in terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, counterterrorism, intelligence, counterintelligence, law enforcement (land based and maritime), police supervision, interview, interrogations and investigative techniques from several Federal, State and Local agencies.
He is a member of NYPD Lieutenants Benevolent Association, NYPD Emerald Society, New York State Fraternal Order of Police, Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, US Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Association, Fleet Reserve Association, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.

Professor Fitzpatrick is a consultant sub contracted by CRA, Inc. CRA, Inc. is exclusively dedicated to providing Homeland Security consultation services to Federal, State, local governments, key private industries, and critical infrastructures. His most recent work was for the Port of New York and New Jersey and the Port of Albany. He currently teaches with American Military University's Homeland Security Studies Program.

He resides in New York with his wife and three sons.
