Biography - Charles R Britt

I am a graduate of the University of Texas – BS in Biology, and New Mexico State University – MS in Wildlife Science. I have worked as a field biologist for many years on military bases in Texas and New Mexico for The University of Texas, The Nature Conservancy, and consulting firms.

During this time I fell in love with the Chihuahuan Desert; the wide open spaces, the flora and fauna in the expansive grasslands, shrublands, and mountains, the rich cultural history of the southwest, and the most beautiful sunsets found on the planet. I have also developed a real dependence on green chiles since moving to New Mexico; you’d have to live here to understand.

As fate would have it, I met my future wife in the desert and she then introduced me to the tropics. Since then, I have focused my efforts on parrot conservation. I primarily work on the protection and conservation of Scarlet Macaws in the remote jungles of Belize and Guatemala. What an experience that is; so many challenges and rewards. I continue to meet amazing individuals who dedicate their lives and efforts to protect these natural jewels for our future. And I still work in the desert so it really is the best of both worlds.

My love of the natural world and the people in it leads me to spend as much of my time as possible along the trails and into the villages. I enjoy birdwatching, backpacking, diving, world travel, and international cuisine. I also enjoy tinkering with things so there are a bunch of ongoing projects.

My career with APUS began in 2011, so I am relatively new to the online teaching world. It is not without its challenges, but I have already found the interactions with the student community to be rewarding and look forward to helping many students in the future attain their educational goals.
