Biography - Karen Morrissette

Karen Morrissette was a federal criminal prosecutor, based in Washington, D.C., for 28 years. During her career with the United States Department of Justice, Ms. Morrissette investigated, prosecuted, and supervised complex federal criminal cases in many judicial districts. She has extensive experience working with a wide array of federal and state law enforcement agencies, as well as with foreign governments and with the intelligence community.

Ms. Morrissette spent a segment of her career investigating and prosecuting international terrorism cases, and then turned her focus to white collar crime. As Deputy Chief of the Fraud Section, Criminal Division, United States Department of Justice, Ms. Morrissette managed a variety of white collar crime investigations, with an emphasis on health care fraud enforcement. After her retirement, she was an Expert Consultant to the United States Department of Justice on health care fraud enforcement policy.

Ms. Morrissette has taught at the law school and college levels, and has trained lawyers and law enforcement agents in many contexts. She also has experience teaching in other subject matter areas, as part of her community service activities.

Ms. Morrissette received her Bachelor’s Degree Summa Cum Laude in English and Psychology in 1974 and her Juris Doctor in 1977, both from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She was admitted to practice law in the State of New York and in the District of Columbia, and currently holds a license to practice law in the District of Columbia.

Ms. Morrissette resides with her husband in central North Carolina, where she contributes her time to several local non-profit organizations and enjoys many outdoor activities.
