Biography - Lawrence R Sexton

I have been teaching at the university level and within industry since 1964.

My first university job was at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. I taught Speech/Communication and Theatre there from 1964 through 1969. Following Hampton, I moved to Akron, Ohio, where I taught in their Speech and Theatre Department.

In 1977 I left the academic world and went into business. I sold and managed in the Real Estate Industry and in the computer industry. Within the Real Estate industry I taught sales techniques, ethics, contract law and several other courses to experienced Realtors.
Today, I teach online for Ashford University and work as an on-campus adjunct for Palm Beach State College. Again, I teach in the Communication departments for both schools.

Aside from teaching, I have had a full life, marrying my college sweetheart in 1963 and raising two daughters with her until her death in 2005. We have five wonderful grandchildren who live in Ohio and Alaska. Following my wifes death, I moved to Florida where I enjoy the water and sunshine. I am an avid bicyclist, kayaker and swimmer. I love to ski, but Florida does not look kindly upon snow. Florida is great for so many fun activities. I am thrilled to be here.

I have also had the pleasure of reconnecting with "the little girl from down the street". I became reaquainted with my playmate from the 40's and 50's and have a wonderful life with her. She is very intelligent, holding a PhD in Pscyhology. She is as interesting today as she was when we were children. We have been sharing our lives after a fifty year separation. If you ever wondered if that little buddy/playmate who you played with all those years ago could ever become your soulmate - she can!

I love teaching. Online teaching is far different from on-campus teaching, but I love both. Many people will tell you that you cannot "connect" with students online. I can tell you, the connections may be different, but I feel I know my online students every bit as well as my on-campus students. Teaching is fun and exciting whether it is online or on-campus. I love it.
