Biography - Diamond Simpson Prothro


Diamond Simpson Prothro, Adjunct Faculty with the School of Public Health, holds a BS in Manufacturing Administration (Engineering Management) from Western Michigan University, a Master of Science in Public Health (with a concentration in Health Administration) from Meharry Medical College and a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School. She comes to APUS with 15 years of experience in health care administration, research, law, and policy experience. Her diverse background is a great fit for the courses she facilitates – PBHE 532 Ethical Issues in Public Health and PBHE 603 Legal Environment of Health Care. In fact, her Master's Thesis was entitled Patient Satisfaction following Shorter Post-Partum Stays and focused in on the legal and ethical implications associated with Managed Care mandates for shorter hospital stays following childbirth.

In 1998, she completed a Post-Graduate Management Fellowship with the fourth-largest Catholic health system in the United States, Trinity Health. She continued her work as a Community Affairs Supervisor for this faith-based organization before receiving a two-year Executive Order Appointment with the Centers for Disease Control as a Presidential Management Fellow in Health Law and Policy. In her current role, with a leading pharmaceutical company, she serves as the Regional Point for Policy and partners with health care customers to plan, implement and evaluate health outcome solutions. She also facilitates educational in-service programs with major Hospitals and Physician Clinics.

Diamond Simpson Prothro is blessed to be married to a wonderful man, Derek Prothro, and to be a parent to two beautiful girls – Makayla Madison (20 months) and Kalyn Delise (9 years). She is originally from a small town, Saginaw Michigan. After residing in several other states, Houston officially became her "home" in 2003. She enjoys outdoor and water activities in her leisure and her motto in life is "no one should ask for more or expect less than the BEST you can do". Her teaching philosophy is one that requires learning to be interactive and engaging.
