My name is David Pepper and I am an instructor in physical geography. I was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, but my parents decided that South Florida was too warm, sunny, and near to the ocean for a growing boy. Instead, they moved me to a good, solid industrial town on the Great Lakes, specifically, Windsor, Ontario, Canada--directly across the border from Detroit.
I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Resource Management and a Master's Degree in Geography at my hometown college--the University of Windsor. I did a PhD in oceanography at Louisiana State University, where I studied coastal sediment transport patterns during winter storms.
I have lived in Hermosa Beach, California since 2001, during which time I have taught courses in physical and environmental geography, as well as research methods, at the University of Southern California and California State University, Long Beach. I am currently working on a project involving the erosion and deposition of sand and gravel on California Beaches during winter storms.
My wife, Dana, and I live with our two cats as we eagerly await the arrival of our first child, due near the beginning of 2011. My hobbies/interests include working out on the beach, running, mountain biking, doing crossword puzzles, and writing short stories.
