Professor Becker currently serves as an adjunct faculty member in the Criminal Justice and Legal Studies Programs for American Public University System (APUS).
A retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, her active duty assignments included 1st Infantry Division (Forward), VII Corps, US Army Defense Appellate Division, and US Army Garrison, Ft. MacPherson. While on active duty, she served as a criminal trial defense officer, a prosecutor, Legal Assistance Officer, criminal defense appellate attorney, US Supreme Court Coordinator for the US Army, and Chief of Claims and Administrative Law. She also served as a Military Law Officer, Trial Defense Officer, Senior Defense Officer, Regional Defense Officer and Senior Security Officer with the 174th Legal Support Organization and the 154th Legal Support Organization respectively in the US Army Reserve. As an Army Reserve officer, Professor Becker served as the Executive Officer and Deputy Chief of Staff for the northern operations of the Office of Military Commissions in the United States. In her civilian capacity, she also served the State of Florida as Chief of Civil Litigation for Central Florida within the Office of the Attorney General, and as the Deputy Director of Operations for the Office of Military Commissions in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Professor Becker is licensed in 9 jurisdictions, holds an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell, and is board certified in State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice, a distinction held by less than 1% of Florida attorneys. She has extensive experience in both trial and appellate litigation before both the state and federal courts, as well as teaching various subjects for lawyers, paralegals and other legal staff. She joined APUS in 2010, and currently teaches LSTD300, Administrative Law; LSTD301, Constitutional Law; LSTD497, the Senior Capstone class; and LSTD 507, the graduate level International Law class.
