Matthew Steinhelfer received a Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs from The George Washington University. He graduated magna cum laude, with Special Honors from the Elliott School of International Affairs. Mr. Steinhelfer also has a Master of Science in Peace Operations from George Mason University. During his time at George Mason, Mr. Steinhelfer was the Senior Managing Editor of the School of Public Policy’s academic journal, New Voices in Public Policy.
Mr. Steinhelfer currently serves as a Senior Foreign Affairs Officer and Central America Coordinator in the U.S. Department of State, Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). In INL, Mr. Steinhelfer manages multi-million dollar security and justice sector programs in the Western Hemisphere. Previously, he worked in the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, primarily managing democracy and governance programs in Iraq and Southeast/East Asia Pacific. Mr. Steinhelfer has received numerous awards from the State Department.
Mr. Steinhelfer is highly interested in all forms of conflict, including theoretical and practical applications for conflict interference. He enjoys politics, travel, foreign languages, arts and literature, and is an active volunteer with community organizations.
