Melinda M Zupon graduated with 2 BAs from the University of South Carolina, one in History (American concentration), the other in English (Literature concentration). She received her MA in Military Studies/ Civil War from the American Military University.
Prior to teaching, Melinda worked and volunteered in the History field for over 10 years with state parks, local museums, and the National Park Service as an Interpretive Park Ranger. During her 8 years as a Park Ranger, she conducted research, gave talks and tours, planned and organized special living history events, trained with historic weapons, and managed a visitor center and staff.

She is a member of 2 chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Alamo Society, Allies of the Alamo, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Civil War Preservation Trust, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and United States Daughters of 1812. Her love of History comes from visiting historic sites and battlefields, and the movies (which may not always be historically accurate but do provide inspiration).
In her spare time, Melinda enjoys watching movies, reading, doing genealogy, camping, and Colonial reenacting. She is also involved in SASS and NCOWS (historic cowboy action shooting). She has 3 dogs (2 shih Tzus, 1 Bichon Frise/ cocker spaniel mix), and 4 rescued cats.
Melinda goes by Professor Melinda or Professor Z. She teaches HIST 101: American History to 1877, MILH 320: The American Revolution, HIST 402: Colonial America, and MILH 498: Senior Seminar in Military History.
