I am interested in history and digital humanities. Recently, I attended the National Endowment for Humanities sponsored Humanities Gaming Institute. I have a PhD and MA in United States History from the University of Cincinnati and an MA in Media Studies from the New School for Social Research. My research interests include the history of American consumerism, twentieth century history, American race relations (which includes both African American history and Native American History), Race and the economy, and the United States in a global context. My research has been supported in part by the Charles Phelps Taft Memorial Fund, The Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History at Duke University, and the University of Cincinnati’s University Research Council. In addition to teaching history, I have worked with Theater for the New City and The Living Theatre and created interactive media with the Center for the Electronic Reconstruction of Historical and Archaeological Sites (CERHAS) at the University of Cincinnati’s world renowned College of Design Architecture Art and Planning, DAAP.
My first book "Advertising in the Age of Persuasion: Building Brand America, 1941-1961" was published on November 8, 2011 by Palgrave Macmillan, http://us.macmillan.com/advertisingintheageofpersuasion/DawnSpring .
