Biography - Randi A Richards


Ms. Randi Richards received her Master of Political Science entirely online from Virginia Polytechnic University and her Bachelor of Political Science from The University of Alabama. She is a certified secondary education teacher in History and Social Studies and has spent over 10 years teaching in the public schools. Ms. Richards developed and implemented the AP Government program at the high school in her district.

Prior to teaching, Ms. Richards spent nearly 20 years in Human Resouces specializing in training and development in the retail industry. Her career took her from Landover, Maryland to Los Angeles, California and back to southern New Jersey. It was then the call of the classroom became overwhelming and she returned to school earning her teaching credentials from Rowan University in New Jersey. She then taught both middle school and high school as well as holding Department Chair positions and other leadership positions within the school district. In 2009, Ms. Richards relocated to north central Virginia and is currently teaching young adults in a maximum security juvenile corrections facility.

Ms. Richards is an Army brat, daughter of a 1952 West Point graduate, who had the opportunity to live in over 15 different states and one foreign country as she grew up. She is also the mother of an active duty Navy enlisted man soon to be retired after 20 years service and 6 cruises. She is well aware of the sacrifices and responsibilities of military members and their families.
Ms. Richards has been a political junkie and policy wonk for most of her life and has been involved in various national campaigns at the grass roots level for the last 15 years. Her Master’s thesis, Local Government and No Child Left Behind focused on the impact locally elected school board members may have on the test results of middle school students.

Her interests include national and local politics, antique and classic cars, her 2 Shih-Tzu's, 2 Sheltie-doodles, and her family.
