Christie Slaton Zgourides graduated from Portland State University with an M.A. in English. Her areas of academic interest include rhetoric and composition (critical thinking, informal logic) as well as Renaissance and contemporary literature. She has taught composition, argumentation, and other courses for a number of years at on-ground institutions, including Warner Pacific College and University of Portland in Portland, Oregon. At WPC she also directed the tutoring center and assisted in the education department teacher practicum placements, among other administrative duties. In 2002, Ms. Zgourides transitioned to online instruction where she has primarily taught composition courses. She now teaches both Foundations of Online Learning and writing courses at APUS.
In the midst of her academic career, Ms. Zgourides spent several years in the business world as the Practice Administrator for a medical practice. Having both academic and business backgrounds has allowed her to bring solid experience from both worlds, including an emphasis on practical application, to the classroom.
In her spare time, Ms. Zgourides is passionate about cooking, gardening, and reading. She lives with her husband and Chihuahua in Texas, but remains a Pacific Northwesterner at heart.
