Biography - Stephanie m Myers-Hunziker

Stephanie m Myers-Hunziker

I have been working in the criminal justice field for the past 15 years and I have been teaching courses in criminal justice and law for over a decade. In 2002 I earned a PhD, in Criminal Justice from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, School of Criminal Justice, State University of New York (SUNY Albany). SUNY Albany was the very first PhD granting institution in my field; there is so much history at this school that I was able to take advantage of while I was a student. This is partially the reason that I am so passionate about what I do. I began teaching while at SUNY Albany and eventually accepted a full time job as a Professor at the University of Central Florida in 2001. I have been teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses full time for 8 years now. I have taught various courses in policing, courts, the administration of justice, juvenile justice, the future of criminal justice, research methods, and criminal justice policy. I am very passionate about my job as a facilitator for these and other courses.

I feel that I have been extremely fortunate to have participated in a great amount of practical work experience as well. I have been involved in program evaluation research of various public programs and agencies in both New York and Florida. I have worked with administrators and street level officers on various projects involving the police. I believe in the importance of Best Practices in every Criminal Justice Agency and I published an article on the importance of Best Practices for program evaluations.

I also have articles published in peer reviewed journals and I have delivered many presentations at Conferences, to Congressional panels, and to local and state government agencies. One of my passions is working CJ agencies, pulling together data, and presenting that information in laymen’s terms. In addition, in the past, I have been a fellowship recipient from the National Institute of Justice.

Currently, I reside in Florida with my two young boys and husband. I am a New Yorker at heart, but I love all that Florida offers my family. I truly look forward to each course that I teach and meeting new students and learning from their experiences. I believe the American Public University is a place where people can take charge of their personal and professional growth. I am happy to play my small role in helping you achieve your goals.
