Biography - Heather D Thornton

I am a British historian of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries with an emphasis on religious legislation and the ties between the Church of England and the state.

I received my doctoral degree in December 2010 from Louisiana State University.

I enjoy traveling--I have visited 5 continents and 13 or 14 countries depending upon how you count. I love learning and experiencing the history of other cultures and societies and try to tie my own experiences into the classroom when relevant.

I enjoy teaching everything from courses on Medieval Europe to Colonial America because it always gives me the opportunity to learn something new about a previously studied part of history.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Brandon. I also enjoying cooking and baking and collecting recipes. One day I will get to try them all out on unaware dinner guests.

A couple of my favorite historical sites (in no particular order): Gettysburg, PA, Westminster Abbey, London, and Domkerk Utretch, Amsterdam.
