Brett H Hicks

Brett Hicks is an Assistant Professor in Security & Global Studies program.

Brett's background in health care administration, emergency management, global health, security cooperation, international humanitarian assistance and disaster relief spans over 19 years in the Philippines, Australia, Bangladesh, Kenya, Pakistan and Iraq.

Brett is a graduate of Hawaii Pacific University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Resource Development. In addition, he holds a Master of Public Health Degree from Emory University in Health Policy and Management and a Master of Arts in Homeland Security with a focus in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University. In 2008, he completed his Executive Certificate in Leadership and Management from the University of Notre Dame.

Brett is currently an educational consultant to numerous public safety centers and institutions of higher learning. His focus is building knowledge and collaboration through social media networks and applications. He has published several articles and book reviews. In 2011, he published his first book, A Guide to Incorporating Social Media into Public Safety Communications through Lulu Press, Inc.

Professionally, Brett is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and certified Level-V in Homeland Security from the American Board for Certification in Homeland Security. He is an active member of the International Association of Emergency Managers and he holds membership in the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society for Business Administration and the Delta Epsilon Tau National Honor Society.
