Biography - Tykeysha Boone


Mrs. Boone received her Bachelors (BS) in Psychology with a minor in Community Health Education, as well as her Masters of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mrs. Boone is currently a doctoral candidate (ABD- All But Dissertation) in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health Education/Health Promotions at Walden University. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).

Mrs. Boone has 3 years of experience as an online educator and has instructed and has instructed a wide variety of health related courses. Mrs. Boone has served as the Director of the Department of Education at a non-profit organization which focuses on providing residential assistance and prevention education for those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Alabama. Her responsibilities there included developing innovative approaches to HIV prevention education, supervising the Education Department staff, managing and implementing departmental programs, conducting community-based research, and grant writing. She also has work experience in health services and clinical research. Mrs. Boone has held positions of research assistant, senior program coordinator, and clinical trials administrator at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and has managed collaborative research efforts between the University and the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Ms. Boone is published in a number of peer-reviewed research journals in the area of chronic pain and is currently a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Public Health. She is a Certified HIV Instructor, a member of the American Public Health Association, Society for Public Health Educators, American Association for Health Education, American Association of Grant Professionals, National Cervical Cancer Coalition, and the Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition.

Her research interests include HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections, Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change and its application among African Americans, and Community Planning and Organization.
