Jane C. Herder was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She attended St. Louis University, where she earned a BA in Communications. Upon graduation she worked at a public radio station as an on air personality, engineer and public service coordinator. She was employed by the Missouri School for the Blind as a paraprofessional until moving to Colorado where she earned a MA in Special Education Severe Needs, Vision Impairments, Multicultural Endorsement and her Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist from the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley.
Her involvement in the student chapter of the Council of Exceptional Children and as an English as a Second Language Tutor continued until she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. In Santa Fe, she continued teaching students who were visually impaired until a move back home to St. Louis. While in St. Louis, she achieved certification as a National Literary Braille Transcriptionist from the Library of Congress. A MEd was earned in Information Sciences and Learning Technologies from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
Jane is the mother of a son age 10. Hobbies include home rehabilitation, flower and vegetable gardening, USTA and WTT tennis, hiking, swimming, reading and being actively involved with the Boy Scouts.
