McGrath has proudly served on the APU faculty since 2007 and was promoted to full time in 2009. McGrath has taught at a number of universities including San Diego State University and several that specialize in distance learning. His teaching background reflects his areas of interest - Humanities, Literacy, Literature, Arts and Culture in both online and traditional classroom environments.

McGrath completed Post-Graduate studies at San Diego State University. Previously, he received a Masters degree in Humanities from California State University Dominguez Hills and a Bachelors degree in English from the University of the State of New York.

He holds a California Teaching Credential with qualifications in English, English as a Second Language, Reading, and Social Sciences. In addition he has certificates in Adult Education and Research for Writing from California State University Sacramento, and is certificated in English Writing through Rutgers State University.

Prior to entering the education field, he was an executive in charge of regional training and operations for a national human resources company.
