Biography - Jon D Holstine


Jon D. Holstine received his Bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from Purdue University in International Relations. He earned his Master’s from The American University in International Relations and Organization and his PhD in History from Indiana University. He was a faculty member at The National War College in the course of which service he received a diploma in US Security Studies. Presently a member of AMU's full time faculty, he also teaches a course on Managing the American Intelligence Community for The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars where he was named Teacher of the Year in 2003. He served on the professional staff of the House Foreign Relations/International Relations Committtee and subsequently as Assistant Administrator for Asia for the United States Agency for International Development. He was Director of Program for International Human Assistance Programs (IHAP), a private non-profit international economic development organization with relief and development programs in Africa, Asia, and the South Pacific. He was an investigator for the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs. Twice during his service with the House and Senate he received special awards for his service from the National League of Families of Prisoners and Missing in Action in Southeast Asia. Subsequently he served as a Special Adviser to the National Council (parliament) of the newly independent Slovak Republic on organizational matters. At various times he has been a consultant on international trade matters, and in international educational cooperation. He has been an adjunct at Strayer University in Humanities and English.

He is an active church musician and has earned lay certification as a church musician at Wesley Theological Seminary. He lives with his wife of 47 years in Northern Virginia.
