Biography - Loretta J LeMay


Loretta J. LeMay received Bachelors’ degrees in Anthropology, Geography, and French from Radford University and a Masters and PhD in Ecological Anthropology with a minor in Population Geography from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. She currently is a professor emerita of Radford University. She held a tenured position in the Geography Department where she used extensive online materials for courses. Her research interests focus on Appalachian culture and she is currently writing a fictional account of the prehistory and history of a company town in southwestern Virginia. She travels extensively bringing her experiences and observations to the classroom. Her travels began during her 15 years as a Navy wife and as a retired dependent. More recent trips include China, Ecuador, Egypt, Russia, and Turkey where she lived in a small mountain village off the southern coast of the Black Sea.
