Biography - Connie J. Porter


Connie Porter received her doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2008 and her Specialist in Education in 2006 from Northwestern Louisiana State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She received an M.A. in Behavioral Science from California State University in 2003 and a B.S. in English from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Doctor Porter is a member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi. She achieved National Board Teacher Certification in 2004.

Prior to joining the faculty of APUS, Doctor Porter taught English, science, and math at both the university level and high school and junior high level in the Louisiana public school system. Her additional professional interests include teaching gifted and talented students and science literacy. Currently, she is writing and submitting several children’s book manuscripts for publication.

Doctor Porter grew up in a military family and completed all her graduate work and gifted teacher certification as a non-traditional student. Her son recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq. She also owns and operates a family business with her husband. These experiences have given Doctor Porter a thorough understanding of the challenges associated with balancing work and academic life.
