Professor Senna Austin received her B.A. in philosophy from the College of William and Mary in 1992 and her juris doctor degree from George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, in 1996. She is admitted to practice law in South Carolina and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
After several years working in the high tech world, Professor Austin did extensive pro bono work for Legal Services of Northern Virginia and the Fairfax County Bar. In addition to family law actions and civil cases, she led a team of attorneys providing estate planning and documents to low-income and elderly clients all over Northern Virginia. She also is a Major in the Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps and is currently mobilized to the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, the Army's personnel headquarters. During her ten years in the Army Reserve, she has provided legal assistance, training, and personnel support to several Army organizations. In 2001, Professor Austin was activated by the Army to work in the Army General Counsel’s Office in the Pentagon for almost a year.
Before her stint with the government, Professor Austin spent several years working in the high tech world, specializing in acquisition and integration of high-tech resources into existing organizations. Her expertise in internet and telecommunications technology made her a valuable corporate asset. She also provided sexual harassment training to hundreds of employees at three different companies.
Professor Austin lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and two children. She serves as the neighborhood watch and police liaison for her neighborhood and is always looking for ways to serve her community.
