Biography - Penny Freeland


Penny Freeland received her BA from Queens College, Magna Cum Laude in 1993. She also earned a MFA in Writing from Sarah Lawrence College in 1995.

Her first jobs included teaching remedial Writing to college students and English as a Second Language to foreign college students.

She went on to teach Composition and Literature courses to online college students. Ms. Freeland has been teaching online since 2001. In 2004, she received the Outstanding Faculty Award from Kaplan University for her consistently high evaluations from students.


Currently, Ms. Freeland teaches writing and Literature, full time, at American Public University. She is a published essayist, poet and fiction writer and has won many awards for her work.


Ms. Freeland lives in The Outer Banks of NC, with her daughter, her dog, and her 21 year old cat. She is an avid collector of sea glass and is also a musician and song writer in her spare time.
