Stephane C. Blais enlisted in the Navy in February 1984 and attended Basic and Apprenticeship Training in Orlando FL. His first assignment was in the Deck Department aboard USS HOEL (DDG 13) in San Diego CA. Following a Western Pacific Deployment, he was selected for Diver Training and attended the Navy Second Class Diver course in Pearl Harbor, HI. Following Diver training, Mr. Blais was assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Six in Charleston SC where he earned the basic demolition qualification and served as a member of the Mine Recovery Detachment. He was then assigned to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Center in Indian Head MD and served as a test diver and hyperbaric chamber operator in support of Navy EOD programs. During this tour, he attended evening classes at University of Maryland and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance.
In 1992, Blais completed Officer Candidate School in Newport RI and upon completion of Surface Warfare Officer and Basic Diving Officer was designated a Special Operations Officer. Reporting to the USS GRASP (ARS 51) in 1994, he served as Supply Officer and Operations officer during two Mediterranean Deployments, 4 jet salvages, Operation Uphold Democracy (Haiti), and the recovery of TWA Flight 800.
Following his tour in USS GRASP, Mr. Blais was designated as a Fleet Support Officer and Human Resources Officer and was assigned to Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach as the Bachelor Housing Officer and Naval Station Rota Spain as the Protocol Officer. In Dec 2003, he reported to the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) and served as Training Officer. During deployment in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, he served as Officer of the Deck Underway and completed his Masters in Business Administration.
Mr. Blais is currently the Personnel Lead for Maritime Operations Center, Operational Level of War at United States Fleet Force Command in Norfolk Virginia.
