EDUCATION
Ms. Irena Kageorgis received a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Master’s of Science in Computer Information Systems from University of Phoenix.
After an extensive graduate study in mathematics she found her passion in applying this knowledge to computer security and information technology - specifically in cryptography, database security, security in system and software design, information modeling with security in mind, and security in process engineering.
She is currently researching and working on her Ph.D. dissertation with Walden University. Her dissertation topic involves creating a model for information security based on grounded theory research method.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Irena Kageorgis is the Program Director for the Information Technology Department’s Information Systems Security at American Public University System (APUS) for over a year, and has been a professor with the American Military University since April 2007.
She continues to be instrumental in the curriculum and faculty development, student, course, and faculty support, and various academic functions, at APUS IT Department, for Information Security, Information Assurance, Network Technologies, Systems Engineering, and the new interest areas of Cybercrime, Digital Forensics, and certificate programs in security, networking, and digital forensics.
Ms. Kageorgis has designed, developed, implemented, and continues to instruct several security courses such as Application Security, Identity Management, Network Security, Cryptography, Authentication, Database Security, and Cellular Networks, for APUS, California Lutheran University, and other universities with computer science, information systems, or computer security curriculums.
She has also held instructor and adjunct professor positions in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, and Mathematics for the above listed universities, and for California State University and Los Angeles City College.
Having been in IT for over two decades (starting with punch cards in the 70’s), Kageorgis has worked as a professional IT consultant, software engineer, software architect, database modeler, developer, and administrator, and systems security integrator, for various business, housing, telecommunications, and health organizations.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
Ms. Kageorgis continues to be a member of UCLA's Chancellor's Associates. She also mentors UCLA transfer students from area community colleges.
Irena also volunteers with local high schools as an advisor for IT curriculum enhancements.
